GT Racing: Motor Academy is Gameloft's attempt to fill the hole left by Gran Turismo's absence on the iPhone. This racing game is much more of a simulation than you normally find on the iPhone, but does it do the job?
This free version of GT Racing: Motor Academy gives you a taste, with three cars and one track to race round, the incredible Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway. Each car is very different, and winning a race is no cake walk.
Visually, GT Racing: Motor Academy does the job. It looks smooth, and the cars look good. It's not exactly full of character, but simulators rarely are. The sound is fine, and you can opt to listen to your iPod as you race.
iPhone racing games stand or fall on their controls, and GT Racing: Motor Academy thankfully has enough configurations to please everyone's style. Steering can be on screen or using tilting, as can acceleration. There are a range of driving aids too, so you can set GT Racing: Motor Academy up to suit your abilities.
With over 100 licensed cars and 14 tracks, GT Racing: Motor Academy is the most extensive racing game on the platform. This free version may be short, but it's still a good race.
